Junior Kindergarten FAQs

Do I have to be an OLPH Parishioner for my children to attend the JK program?
No, you do not have to be an OLPH Parishioner for your child to attend, however parishioners do receive first priority.

How do you decided who is accepted?
The JK program follows the same admission policy of Catholic Schools.  This policy is established by the Catholic Independent Schools of the Vancouver Archdiocese (CISVA). To read this policy, please visit the OLPH main school website (under admissions). This policy is also included in the JK application form.

If my child is accepted into the OLPH JK program, is he/she automatically accepted in the main school for kindergarten?
The OLPH JK program is operated through Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.  It is NOT direct entry into OLPH School.  Families interested in applying for Kindergarten must submit a separate application form directly to OLPH School in January of the year your child turns five.

What is the teacher-child ratio in JK?
The JK program teacher child ration is 8-1

Do the children have outdoor time daily?
Yes, the children have daily outdoor time in the primary playground located directly outside the JK classroom.

Does the JK program offer extra-curricular classes or teachers?
The JK program, offers; Music/Yoga, Ceramics and Outdoor classes in our program.  These classes are offered during regular class time with teachers specialized in the particular subjects.

Does my child have to be toiled trained to start JK?
Yes, all children must be fully toiled trained before starting.
